Hannan General Aviation Airport, the first general aviation airport in Wuhan, China's Hubei province, completed a successful maiden trial flight on its second runway on Sept 29.
The purpose of the trial flight is to test the runway and flight procedures, ensuring that it meets the set requirements.
The Hannan general aviation airport is listed among China's first batch of demonstration aviation bases with an area of 919 mu (61.27 hectares). It includes an airfield area, terminal area, loop road, international aerospace engineering center, and can accommodate small cargo aircrafts.
In November this year the first World Fly-in Expo (WFE) will be held here. By then, around 700 aircrafts from 30 countries will gather in Wuhan, which is expected to attract over 300 aviation equipments and supplies manufacturers and an audience of 600,000 people. In 2019, the airport will host the parachuting event of the 7th Military World Games.
It is reported that there are two construction phases of the airport, including an 800-meter runway of civilian level 1B standard, and a 1,600-meter runway of civilian level 2B standard.
Now, the airfield area is already complete, while the terminal control tower and a comprehensive building for aviation are currently being renovated.
"With low surrounding buildings, the flight experience at the airport is outstanding," pilot Li Qiuxue said, adding that the 1,600-meter runway extended the available space and improved safety, which will accommodate more types of airplanes in the future.
