Baltic Bees performs at WFE

By Jiang Xingguang and Li Chenxi | Updated: 2017-11-05

The Baltic Bees jet team from Latvia provided a visual feast to all visitors at the 2017 World Fly-in Expo at the Hannan General Aviation Airport in Wuhan, China's Hubei province, held from Nov 4 to 7.

Founded in 2008, the Riga-based team performs with Czech-made L39 jet trainers.

From the group's beginning, its flight instructor and architect of its display program has been the well-known aerobatic pilot Valery Sobolev.

First flights by the team were flown in a two-ship formation. In later years, two jets were added and a full aerobatic display program was created, according to the team’s official website.

The program was developed in a very short period of time and the team has gained a reputation as a professional-grade civilian aerobatic display team.

Painted yellow and blue, the latter being the color of the Baltic Sea, the team’s jets resemble dancing bees in the air.
