A delegation from the Beijing office of Russia’s aviation and space technology administration visited Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) on Dec 5, to discuss the possibility of establishing the Asia-Pacific base for McDonnell-Douglas (MD) series helicopters in the zone.

Peng Hao, director of the administrative committee of WHDZ, welcomed and introduced the zone’s general aviation industry to the delegation.

In recent years, WHDZ has seen rapid growth in general aviation and the satellite industry, establishing the largest general aviation airport in central China, and successfully holding the 2017 World Fly-in Expo in November.

Peng said that the zone expects more Russian aviation enterprises to invest in its general aviation industry, and will work to create a better investment environment.

Chen Yang, the team leader of the delegation, highly praised the investment and development environment in the zone and claimed that the complete infrastructure in the zone provides great convenience for the implementation of the project. Chen noted that they will seize the opportunity and determine areas to cooperate in as soon as possible.

According to the introduction, the project will receive total investment of 2 billion yuan ($302.27 million) and plans to locate in the zone’s general aviation and satellite industrial park, in an area of 150 mu (10 hectares).

It will take three years to build the Asia-Pacific headquarters, a research and development center, maintenance and testing workshops, and aprons and hangars for MD series helicopters.
