Primary school in WHDZ welcomes New Year

Updated: 2018-01-03

The Experimental Primary School in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), Hubei province, held a cultural festival themed “Beautiful China” to celebrate the New Year on Dec 29, 2017.

Teachers, students and parents decorated 34 classrooms with representative items of 34 different provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and special administrative regions.

A total of 2,300 students were able to experience the unique cultures of different regions in these classrooms.

Each classroom demonstrated the most salient features of the region. For instance, Jiangxi province is known for ceramics from Jingde town, so the corresponding classroom offered practical activities such as painting porcelain plates. Hainan province features sea, beaches and coconut trees, so the classroom was decorated with these elements.

The most popular classroom was the room representing Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, which featured ethnic costumes, mutton shashlik and fruits.

Innovative artworks made independently by students or together with parents were exhibited in the square of the school, including wooden Oriental Pearl TV Towers, laser-carved Yellow Crane Towers and 3D-printed paper cuttings.

The activity aimed to cultivate students’ creativity and promote traditional culture.
