British photographer brings tourists to Wuhan

Updated: 2018-03-06

A series of photographs captured by a British tourist has been helping to attract visitors to Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei province, according to a report published in Changjiang Daily.

The 25-year-old young man known as Matt, who majored in film and television at university, is a photography enthusiast.

Since he published the photographs he took on Weibo (China's leading microblogging site) in May 2016, Matt has taken more than 5,000 photos of Wuhan, attracting a large number of visitors to the city.

The two series of photos are called "Wuhan•Future" and "Wuhan 2049", the former focusing on high buildings and the metro system, and the latter recording the rapid development of the city.

"I love Wuhan. Its geographical location is central to the future of China," said Matt.

"I also love old buildings, traditional cultures, food, and the Yangtze River in the city," he added.

Many of Matt's friends from foreign countries have since traveled to Wuhan after seeing the city in his photos. Matt claims that they too have fallen in love with Wuhan.

In addition to taking photographs, Matt plans to make documentaries to record the daily lives of ordinary people in the city during 2018. He plans to start with the story of an 85-year-old shoemaker.
