Shared agricultural drones to serve Wuhan farmers

Updated: 2018-08-21

A new company, Hubei Xuanwei UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) technology and innovation company, was set up in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), Hubei province, on Aug 16.

The new firm provides agricultural services using drone technology and is owned by Shenzhen Eagle Brother UAV Technology, a company engaging in the R&D of intelligent agricultural UAVs that has established 15 companies since its establishment in 2015.

Its products are exported to countries and regions including South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Using a mobile app, farmers can receive real-time information about the farmland where a drone is currently spraying pesticides, including spraying areas, height, speed and time, said Li Caisheng, founder of Eagle Brother.

Li revealed that the current price of intelligent agricultural drones produced by the company is between 50,000 yuan ($7,312) and 150,000 yuan.

As the cost of our products is too high for individual farmers, the company has developed two mobile apps allowing them to rent drones like shared bikes, once they have registered with a cell phone, he added.

The average spraying fee is between 8 yuan and 10 yuan per mu (0.067 hectares), while users must pay a deposit ranging from 20,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan depending on the type of drone.

The company intends to make 300 to 500 drones available to rent in the Wuhan area.

We will also provide training courses for farmers in Wuhan free of charge, and the price is expected to be made more affordable for farmers on low incomes, added Li.

Currently the mobile apps are only available for Android users.
