Dongfeng Motor Corporation, a company based in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, successfully tested a LTE-V/5G remote-controlled unmanned vehicle on Sept 6, marking the establishment of Hubei's first internet of vehicles demonstration area in the company.
A driver remotely controlled the unmanned vehicle in Dongfeng's technical park via an LTE-V/5G network, then the vehicle realized driving operations under signal controls such as acceleration, deceleration, and steering within a millisecond.
Kang Li, Party secretary of Dongfeng's technology center, said that the company's MiniBus unmanned vehicle program will undergo trial operations in 2019, with China Mobile providing the LTE-V/5G network support and Huawei providing technical support.
The program is expected to radically transform how public transportation is delivered, Kang added.
