A commencement ceremony to mark the start of construction work on four healthcare projects in Wuhan was held at Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Central China's Hubei province, on Dec 11.

Officials from Wuhan municipal people's government, the city's health and family planning commission, and the administrative committee of WHDZ attended the ceremony.

One of the four projects is located in WHDZ, namely a branch of Wuhan Children's Hospital, also known as the WHDZ medical and healthcare center for women and children.

Located at the intersection of Fangcao Second Road and Haitang Road, the hospital is adjacent to the second plant of Dongfeng Honda Automobile and Yongwang business circle.

The project received investment of 830 million yuan ($120.5 million) and covers an area of 37 mu (2.47 hectares).

Construction is expected to be completed in June 2020, with the hospital offering 660 beds and 1,300 parking spaces.

After completion, it will be operated by Wuhan Children's Hospital to provide healthcare to women and children, as well as basic public health services, benefiting around 2 million residents.

The founding of the hospital will improve health services across WHDZ, especially the quality of maternal and child health services.

An additional three projects, namely a maternal and child healthcare building of Wuhan Children's Hospital, an outpatient building of Wuhan Third Hospital for burns patients, and an inpatient building at Wuchang Hospital, are expected to be completed by 2021 –– delivering significant improvements to the city's healthcare system.
