A total of 21 hydrogen buses began operating in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, on May 29. The WHDZ now has more operational hydrogen buses than any other zone in Wuhan.
The 21 buses will serve lines 240, 237 (outer ring), 237 (inner ring), 238, and 272 in the WHDZ.
Last March, WHDZ put five hydrogen buses into trial operation. The buses are environmentally friendly, quiet, efficient, and durable.
A hydrogen bus can travel around 300 kilometers after just six minutes of charging.
WHDZ is currently developing its hydrogen energy automobile industry and plans to build it into a world-class hydrogen vehicle hub. The zone boasts six vehicle companies and more than 500 auto parts firms.
Hydrogen refueling stations are key to the success of the hydrogen energy automobile industry.
This year, a hydrogen refueling station opened in the WHDZ, and another two are still under construction.
According to the zone's development plan, a national hydrogen energy industrial park will be built in Wuhan by 2022. It will feature three to five globally leading hydrogen energy companies with an annual output value of more than 20 billion yuan ($2.9 billion). The output value is expected to reach 100 billion yuan by the end of 2030.
