Dongfeng Motor Corporation, a Chinese carmaker based in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, held a meeting on July 22 to discuss its performance in the first half of this year.

Data revealed that in the first six months, Dongfeng sold around 1.7 million vehicles, and its market share increased by 0.2 percent year on year.

Addressing the meeting, Zhu Yanfeng, chairman of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, said that the company should shift focus from rapid growth to high-quality development, and put emphasis on structural improvements.

The company sold 1.38 million passenger vehicles, among which 1.14 million were joint-stock vehicles and 246,000 were independently manufactured.

The company sold 314,000 commercial vehicles during this period, a year-on-year increase of 1.8 percent. This was more than any other company in the country's commercial vehicle market.

Dongfeng is currently in the process of upgrading its industrial model and is focusing on travel services, smartly-connected vehicles, and new energy vehicles.

In the first half of the year, Dongfeng sold 33,000 new energy vehicles, an increase of 259.8 percent.

In June, Dongfeng signed a cooperation agreement with Tencent, a leading Chinese internet company, to establish an innovation laboratory that will focus on the research of cutting-edge technology for the automobile sector.

The company is also expanding its foreign market and exported 30,000 vehicles in the first half of the year.
