A swimming competition for the 2019 Military World Games concluded at the Wuhan Sports Center in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on Aug 4.

A total of 11 teams consisting of 305 teenage athletes participated in the two-day competition, which featured seven swimming competitions: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, individual medley, freestyle relay, and medley relay.

Zhang Ziyang from the Hubei Olympic Sports Center won gold in the men's 1,500m freestyle with a time of 15 minutes 33.08 seconds.

The competition was held in preparation for the 2019 Military World Games, which will be held in Wuhan in October.

A total of 53 judges and 164 volunteers also participated in the event to ensure that everything was up to international standards.

According to Yan Guanliang, deputy director of the administrative committee of the WHDZ, the event tested the venue’s ability to host a sporting event, putting its management, organization, reception, services, award ceremony, safety, and security to the test.

Before the Games, a total of 38 such events will be conducted at all venues in Wuhan from April to September.
