IoT gas meters bring convenience in WHDZ

By Hu Xiaoyu | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2019-08-14

Relying on the internet of things (IoT) technology, smart gas meters have been installed in households in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, to realize remote automatic collection of gas data and help residents use gas safely.

Traditionally, people had to deposit their gas bills through an IC card at a service center and insert the card into the gas meter to use the gas.

Now the IC card has finished its mission, because the IoT meter is connected to the internet and allows users to pay their bills through an app on their mobile phones.

In addition, the smart gas meter can detect gas leaks and automatically stops the supply, according to Li Meng, an executive of the Wuhan company of the CNPC Kunlun Natural Gas Co.
