An intelligent glass greenhouse project is currently being built in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province.
The project, which covers 2,000 hectares, is funded by Evergrande Group with total investment of 40 billion yuan ($5.69 billion).
A wide range of cutting-edged technology will power the project, including unmanned seeders, and artificial intelligence for pest detection and treatment.
A comprehensive environmental control system will adjust temperature, light, water, air and fertilizers to the most favorable level for the growth of seeds, and unmanned machinery will reap ripe fruits and vegetables and send them to centers for intelligent sorting, cold-chain storage and deep processing.
“Modern agriculture is a capital- and technology-intensive industry, which requires a large amount of advanced equipment and high-end workers,” said He Zhengbing, deputy general manager of the Agricultural Industrial Development Investment Company of WHDZ.
According to local authorities, another agricultural project invested by Chinese genomics giant BGI and Country Garden was also signed in the zone in June.
