The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone recently introduced a series of incentives for intellectual property, with the highest award of 1 million yuan ($141,900).

According to local officials, the measures cover the creation, application, protection and management of intellectual property.

For example, companies which are granted national- or provincial-level intellectual property rights can receive awards ranging from 60,000 yuan to 1 million yuan.

Companies that mortgage their intellectual property can also receive an allowance, with the highest worth 100,000 yuan.

Those who have won overseas lawsuits for intellectual property rights in the previous year can also receive an award of 300,000 yuan.

In addition, the local government also leads the city in offering subsidies to companies in the introduction and training of skilled workers related to intellectual property work.

Officials said that the WHDZ is making great efforts to promote industrial transformation and upgrading, and the move aims to encourage innovation and attract more high-end workers and projects.
