A test golf tournament ahead of the upcoming 7th Military World Games was held at the Modern Land Beyond Sky Golf Club in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) on Aug 30.

More than 110 golfers from across Hubei province took part in the one-day competition, divided into the men’s group and women’s group.

Officials said the event was a “mock examination” to test the venue’s infrastructure, equipment, services and organizing capability, which was proved to meet international standards.

Officials added that a number of departments will make further improvements to ensure that the men’s golf event in the Military World Games is a great success in October.

The WHDZ will host the opening and closing ceremonies for the Military World Games, which will kick off on Oct 18, as well as seven competitions, according to Peng Xunchao, deputy director of the zone’s administrative committee.

The zone has seen a booming sports industry, with several world-class sporting events being held in the area, including the World Fly-in Expo, the Badminton Asia Championships and the FINA Diving World Cup.

It was also named a “national sports industrial demonstration base” at the 2019 National Sports Industrial Base Work Conference held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, on Aug 22.
