A total of 9,380 competitors from 109 countries have registered for the 7th CISM Military World Games being held in Wuhan city, according to the information released by the organizers.

The Seventh CISM Military World Games Executive Commission said on Oct 17 that among the competitors, there are 67 world champions and Olympic champions.

It added that there are 118 athletes that were in the top eight in their discipline in the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, eight who are in the world’s top 10 in the modern field pentathlon, and 43 champions of military competition events staged in the previous Military World Games.

The Military World Games, starting in 1995, is a multi-sport event held every four years organized by the International Military Sports Council, or CISM.

A total of 27 major events and 329 minor events will be staged during the latest games, including 22 Olympics events. Among them is track and field, swimming, football, basketball, as well as specialist competitions such as the aeronautical pentathlon, military pentathlon, naval pentathlon and parachuting.

This year’s event will be by far the biggest (???? Check?) Military World Games, the organizers said.

More than 50 national defense chiefs, military chiefs and military attachés from more than 50 countries attended the opening ceremony on Oct 18.
