The Chinese delegation led the meal table on the first matchday of the 7th CISM Military World Games in Wuhan city -- with 12 golds, 4 silvers and 6 bronze medals on Oct 19, officials said.

China's shooting team took the first gold in the 25 meters military rapid fire pistol men's team event, beating Russia and Democratic People's Republic of Korea to top the podium on Oct 19.

Liao Weihua, a member of the People's Liberation Army's Bayi aeronautical pentathlon team, won gold in the flying contest -- officially called low-altitude triangular navigation -- of the aeronautical pentathlon.

Liao beat competitors from eight other countries, including Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Lithuania. The victory marked the Chinese delegation’s second gold medal during the 7th Military World Games.

The flying contest of the aeronautical pentathlon is one of the most distinctive events at the Military World Games.

It was the first time that Chinese delegation had taken part in the competition. Teams from nine countries took part in the flying contest, and only one athlete of each team was allowed to take part in the event.

Six of the 12 Chinese gold medals were from the swimming events -- including the women's 400m freestyle, men's 100m backstroke and women’s 50m freestyle.
