The city-level final of 2019 Wuhan Campus Soccer League opened in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone -- also known as the WHDZ -- on Nov 14, attracting the participation of 4,800 students, according to a WHDZ statement.

A total of 11 groups featured in the competition. They included a junior and senior high school men's group, junior and senior high school girls' group, primary school A and B groups, a primary school girl’s group A and B and a primary school elite group A and B.

The competition will be based on different team formations such as five-a-side, eight-a-side and eleven-a-side.

Organizers said the soccer tournament will run until Dec 11.

The 2019 Wuhan Campus Soccer League was launched in May this year. The city's 14 central urban areas and new districts began to join in mid-May.

From September to October, with the support of the education bureau of Wuhan and the Wuhan Soccer Association, all the district-level leagues ran smoothly.

A total of 620 schools, 2,310 student teams and about 35,000 people participated in the school-level and district-level competitions.

The number of schools participating account for more than 70 percent of the total number of primary and secondary schools in the city.
