A self-driving car developed by T Engineering -- a company affiliated to Dongfeng Motors -- has obtained a public road test license for self-driving cars issued by the Swedish Transport Agency, according to local media reports.

Sweden-based T Engineering was acquired by Dongfeng Motors in October, 2012 and has become Dongfeng’s first overseas research and development facility.

The company's technical team consists of some 80 engineers and more than 80 percent of its employees have more than 20 years of work experience.

Its business focuses on engine control systems, new energy electronic control systems, vehicle electronic architecture, gateways and automobile body control.

In addition, the company has conducted related explorations into the field of autonomous driving.

The company's self-driving public road test sample car is converted from Dongfeng's own brand passenger car.

A company spokesman said that it has added high-definition cameras, radar and an automatic driving control system.

As a result, he added, it had reached the highest level of autonomous driving currently available – Level 4 – which is a highly autonomous driving level, leading up to fully autonomous Level 5 driving.

Sweden is one of the countries that most value traffic safety and technological innovation in Europe. T Engineering is one of only five companies in Sweden to have obtained a self-driving car road test license.
