The AEOLUS China Automobile and Motorcycle Sports Festival 2019 officially opened -- with an opening ceremony staged at Wuhan Sports Center located in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (also known as WHDZ) on Dec 12, according to local media reports.

The WHDZ four-day event is the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the automobile and motorcycle sports industry in China.

A total of five competition categories will be included, WHDZ officials said.

These are the China Drift Championship, the China Endurance Championship, China Touring Car Championship, China Truck Racing Championship and the China Esports Racing Championship.

The event, jointly hosted by the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports, the people’s government of Wuhan and the Sports Bureau of Hubei province, attracted the participation of more than 30 participating teams, more than 140 cars and more than 200 drivers from around the world.

Organizers said experience zones were set up for the event, including a racing experience zone, a dynamic equipment experience zone, a real AR racing experience zone and a FIA e-sports experience zone.

As the zone where Dongfeng Motors headquarters is located, the WHDZ has strong automobile industry foundations and R&D strength. After 28 years of development, it has formed a complete automobile industry chain from R&D to production to sales, with an annual output of more than 1 million vehicles.

Officials said that in order to realize its transformation from the traditional automobile industry to the next-generation automobile industry, the zone is advancing the construction of the National Intelligent Networked Automobile (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone and is committed to creating a world-class automobile city.
