Wuhan, capital city of central Hubei province, is to launch a night service for high-speed trains during the Spring Festival travel rush period, as announced by China Railway Wuhan Group Co on Jan 7, officials said.
This year’s Spring Festival travel rush starts on Jan 10 and will last for roughly 40 days, coming to an end on Feb 18.
According to China Railway Wuhan Group Co, during the Spring Festival travel rush period the number of railway passengers will reach 24.39 million, for a year-on-year growth of three percent, with the maximum daily volume of 920,000 passengers.
A total of 44 pairs of nighttime high-speed trains will run on routes linking destinations such as Shanghai and Guangzhou in Guangdong province. The nighttime high-speed service operations will be increased this year to seven days, from the six days during the travel rush period in 2019.
Wuhan introduced an e-ticket system for its bullet and high-speed trains earlier, in December.
With the launch of the system, the e-tickets replace paper stubs and passengers can board trains using their ID cards or a QR code generated by China's official railway ticket-booking mobile app, called 12306.
Passengers can use valid ID cards and other identifiable documents. With these, they can purchase tickets to go through the self-service gates, for verification and check-ins and check-out procedures.
During the boarding process, passengers must be seated according to the date, train number, carriage number and seat number shown on the purchased ticket. When train staff members check the ticket, passengers should present the original valid ID cards used when purchasing the ticket.
