The comprehensive reconstruction of six villages in Zhunakou in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- in the city of Wuhan in Central China’s Hubei province -- resumed on March 31, according to WHDZ officials.

The extensive project, being developed by WHDZ-based infrastructure developer Wuhan Chedu Co, is the biggest prefabricated housing project in Hubei province.

The total construction area will be 780,000 square meters, involving 5,686 individual houses, with 29 residential blocks, two kindergartens, four commercial buildings and ancillary support buildings.

Officials said the novel coronavirus epidemic had put a spanner in the works as far as the project schedule was concerned.

"The epidemic has affected the project for two months. We must try to catch up," according to project manager Li Chaolin.

Li added that the construction momentum had been regained and when the project reached a certain level, a lot of the building would be interconnected, which should shorten the construction period.
