During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), the city of Wuhan in Central China's Hubei province focused on optimizing its business environment, strengthening corporate services, and accelerating the cultivation of market entities, according to local media reports.

Enterprises including Dongfeng Motor Co and Hubei Electric Power Co now achieve annual operating revenues exceeding 100 billion yuan ($15.32 billion).

A total of 13 of the city's private enterprises are among the top 500 domestic private enterprises.

The number of industrial enterprises above a designated scale in the city has reached 2,949, and it has moved up three places in the sub-provincial city rankings.

According to the city's economy and information technology bureau, in 2019 Wuhan ranked third in a comprehensive nationwide evaluation of the development environment for national small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In terms of supporting the growth of SMEs, seven enterprises in Wuhan city have been approved as national manufacturing single champion enterprises; 14 enterprises have been selected as special new "little giant" enterprises by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; and 208 enterprises have grown into provincial hidden champion enterprises.
