The China Wuhan (Automotive and Parts) Intellectual Property Right Protection Center was officially launched in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on Dec 10, after passing the acceptance test carried out by the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

The IP service center conducts rapid IP rights protection work for the automobile and parts industry, undertakes the rapid pre-examination of design patent applications in related fields, assists in the rapid handling of patent infringement disputes, and also provides IP rights protection assistance and services.

Through the establishment of rapid authorization, rights confirmation and rights protection mechanisms, a boost will be given to the transformation and upgrading of the local automobile and parts industry.

The timeframe for the examination and authorization of design patents will be shortened from the original average of six months to less than one month, with the shortest as quickly as one week.

In recent years, WHDZ has taken intellectual property work as a strategic part of its promotion of regional industrial transformation and upgrading and high-quality development.

In 2019, the development zone was approved as a national intellectual property demonstration park.

As of Oct 31, there had been 2,504 applications for invention patents in the zone, an increase of 82.37 percent year-on-year. Among them, the number of enterprise invention patent applications was 2,314, a year-on-year increase of 95.6 percent, and the growth rate ranked first in the city.

The authorized volume of invention patents increased by 28.33 percent year-on-year. Among them, the number of enterprise invention patents granted increased by 29.9 percent year-on-year.
