Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province, has released its goals for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), including stepping up its modernization efforts, as well as developing itself into five national and regional centers.

The city is set to become a national economic center, a national science and technology innovation center, a national trade and logistics center, an international exchange center, and a regional financial center.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan Period, Wuhan will focus on the construction of "one city, one circle, one group, and one belt".

It is to strengthen its leading regional role, push the development of the Wuhan Metropolitan Area (or Greater Wuhan), promote the integrated development of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and promote the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone, along with the Optics Valley, the Wuhan Airport Economic Development Zone and Changjiang New Area, will be upgraded into Wuhan city sub-centers.

Wuhan is also to accelerate the construction of a spatial development pattern of "main city optimized, four sub-centers strengthened, and urban and rural areas development integrated".
