Wuhan city – capital of Central China's Hubei province – has confirmed that a total of 174 new transportation projects will break ground in 2021 including highways, railways and logistics projects.

In addition, the city will push to complete total investment in the transportation sector of 46.63 billion yuan ($7.17 billion), according to local media reports.

According to the Wuhan municipal transportation bureau, the Wuyang Expressway, Wuhan-Dawu Expressway and the second phase of rail-water transport will be completed this year. It also said  construction of the third runway of Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, the Wuhan-Tianmen Expressway and Wuhan-Songzi Expressway will begin.

In the current year, the municipal transportation bureau will promote the construction of 49 logistics projects – including the Wuhan-Europe International Logistics Park – with a total investment of 9.03 billion yuan, as part of the city's efforts to develop into a national trade and logistics center.

The city will also accelerate the construction of a port-type national logistics hub, apply for permission to establish a dry port-type national logistics hub and speed up the construction of a national multimodal transport demonstration project.

In 2021, Wuhan airport will focus on broadening its domestic route layout and is expected to open one to three new international cargo routes and eight to 10 domestic passenger routes.

While paying close attention to the international epidemic situation, routes to neighboring destinations such as Japan, South Korea and cities in Southeast Asia will be resumed. More flights linking with international destinations, including Seoul and Singapore, will be established.

The airport will also gradually resume intercontinental routes.
