The first Wuhan Design Fair kicked off at South Taizihu Innovation Valley in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) on Nov 6.

Centering on tradition, modernity and the future, as well as on design and cultural and scientific innovation, the fair consisted of seven themed activities.

Teachers and students from South-Central Minzu University staged a shadow play – The Legend of Nezha – and its arresting plots have attracted a large audience.

"We compile our stories from traditional Chinese myths or classics, and we transform these characters into iconic figures," said Pan Jun, vice president of the university's Fine Arts School.

The fair also invited six distinctive local enterprises to share with 150 Wuhan-based undergraduates successful design cases that have energized firms, as well as some patented design products.

South Taizihu Innovation Valley is reportedly among the first innovation valleys to be authorized in Wuhan. Occupying an area of 100,000 square meters, the valley boasts strong supporting infrastructure and efficient government services, which have made the valley a perfect place for entrepreneurs to establish cultural innovation and design companies.
