The SiEngine Technology Co, an auto sci-tech company based at Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) and committed to the design, development and sale of advanced automotive systems on chips (SoCs), has developed an automobile chip for a SoC intelligent cockpit, which has been taped out successfully and will officially be launched on Dec 10. As a significant move by China to break the foreign monopoly on high-end intelligent cockpit chips, the chip is expected to complete the testing process by 2022.

Liu Ziqing, secretary of the WHDZ working committee, recognized the major technological achievements of the company during a symposium on Nov 16. According to Liu, the zone will focus on building a new generation of the automobile industrial chain and help auto chip researching and manufacturing companies in the zone to thrive.

Founded in September 2018 at WHDZ, SiEngine Tech now possesses many core invention patents. Its CEO Wang Kai pledged at the symposium to coordinate with other auto manufacturers and first-tier suppliers and accelerate the application process for the chip product in a bid to improve the overall capabilities of the zone's automobile manufacturing and service industrial chains,  and bring smart city infrastructure and intelligent connected vehicle development to a higher level.
