Construction officially began on the scientific and technological innovation building of Jianghan University, a college based in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on Dec 20. The building was reportedly funded by Wuhan and Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ).

Jing Xinhua, president of the university, Xie Xianqi, academician from Chinese Academy of Engineering, and officials from Wuhan and WHDZ governments were present at the launch ceremony.

The building, occupying a total construction area of 70,000 square meters, will be home to eight national and provincial key laboratories for precision blasting, optoelectrochemical materials, flexible display materials, poisonous pollutants, and industrial air pollution control.

As a major college in Wuhan, Jianghan University has seen remarkable results over the past decade in system improvement, platform building, scientific research, and government-industry-school-research cooperation.

Over the past five years, the university has collected 476 million yuan ($74.26 million) in research funds, undertaken more than 110 research programs funded at the national level, and had about 1,600 intellectual property items authorized.
