Progress has been made on the construction of two high-end medical projects in Wuhan Economic & Development Zone (WEDZ) – the Wuhan University Heavy Ion Medical Center and the Tongji International Rehabilitation Medical Center.
The Wuhan University Heavy Ion Medical Center has an investment of about 2.4 billion yuan ($376.56 million) and is being co-constructed by the zone, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The project, which includes a heavy ion treatment center, outpatient departments for all kinds of infectious diseases and standard care units, occupies a construction area of nearly 140,000 square meters and will become the nation's fourth heavy ion hospital.
"We've put the roof on the outpatient building, and the fourth floor of the inpatient building has been completed. The roof will be put on the main structure of the comprehensive medical building by the second quarter of this year," said an official in charge of the project.
The second project is currently being constructed by more than 700 workers. After six months of work, roofs have been placed on the 120 emergency center and rehabilitation facility research center and construction has started on the second structure.
About 2.05 billion yuan has been invested into the Tongji International Rehabilitation Medical Center, which is being co-constructed by the zone and Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It has a planned construction area of 230,000 sq m.
