Statistics show that on Jan 17 – the first day of the Spring Festival travel rush – the number of travelers in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) decreased slightly compared with the previous figure, while the amount of cargo remained normal.

"There are fewer travelers than last year. Many workers have responded to the government's call to stay put," said Wang Shuangxi, deputy head of the Hanyang Railway Station.

"COVID-19 has been discovered in many parts of our country and the number of people on the road in WEDZ has decreased by 15 percent from last year," said Deng Jianyan, deputy director of the zone's housing and urban-rural development bureau.

"According to anti-pandemic requirements, the crew of overseas ships are not allowed to go ashore," said one official from the zone's transportation sector.

It is estimated that during the Spring Festival travel rush, the road transit network will register about 3.29 million trips.
