The main structure of the first large-scale new energy vehicle (NEV) battery project – the CALB power cell and energy storage cell Wuhan base in the General Aviation and Satellite Industrial Park of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) was roofed on March 5, according to local media reports.

The base is expected to put into use in the fourth quarter this year and is a key strategic project in Hubei province meant to help peak carbon dioxide emissions and achieve carbon neutrality.

According to Wang Guotai, a staff member in charge of the project, the roof was finished 20 days ahead of schedule due to close coordination between the construction unit and the industrial park. "It only took 25 days to complete basic construction, and the main structure of the project was roofed in just 89 days," said Wang. Meanwhile, the base's 13 supporting buildings, including office buildings, dismantling workshops, and boil steam rooms, were also roofed in just 85 days.

The base is divided into two phases and received 10 billion yuan ($1.58 billion) in investment from CALB, a global new energy leader specializing in the R&D, production, sales and market application development of lithium batteries and battery materials, BMS, energy storage batteries and related integrated products.
