The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) signed a collaboration agreement with major Chinese automaker Dongfeng in five years (2022-26). The two sides vowed to build a first-class automobile industrial cluster, establish a 1-trillion-yuan-level ($152.6 billion) auto valley industrial innovation corridor, and turn Wuhan a car manufacturing hub of Central China.

According to the agreement, Dongfeng will continue exploring sustainable development and digital transformation, master core technologies in car electrification and intelligentization, further develop its independent new energy vehicle (NEV) brands, complete its layout in core auto spare parts, and strengthen Wuhan's overall capacity in automobile manufacturing.

From 2011 to 2021, the zone carried out two rounds of effective cooperation with Dongfeng. As a domestic car-making powerhouse, the company sold 3.28 million cars last year, ranking 85th in the Fortune 500 Company list.
