Wuhan's key project launch ceremony for the second quarter of this year was held on April 27. The main venue for the event was set up in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ).

Thirteen key projects were launched by WEDZ at the ceremony, including six focusing on advanced manufacturing, one on modern services, two on environmental protection, and four on infrastructure and social welfare. Total investment in the projects reached 23.35 billion yuan ($3.58 billion), the highest in Wuhan.

With their hefty price tags, significant sci-tech value, strong market prospects, and considerable social benefits, the 13 projects will push forward industrial transformation, boost industry-city integration, and inject new vitality into the zone.

The zone's new energy vehicle (NEV) smart workshop, among the aforementioned projects, has a planned production capacity of 256,000 cars annually, and will occupy an area of 63.56 hectares. Upon completion in 2024, the highly-automated and digitalized workshop will be able to handle the entire car manufacturing process, including punching, welding and testing.

The Central China Regional Emergency Rescue Center, another project, was also launched during the ceremony. It will serve as one of China's six regional emergency centers and will be tasked with emergency rescue missions during natural disasters in Hubei, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Henan and Jiangsu provinces.

In addition to the 13 projects, WEDZ will reportedly also sign over 20 programs into effect with a total contract amount of more than 60 billion yuan.
