Wuhan's intellectual connected vehicle (ICV) closed-loop test site, located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), is now filled with asphalt pavers, road rollers and other engineering vehicles operating at full capacity.

The test site has 10 test zones, nine of which were completed after one and a half years of construction. With 95 percent of the project finished, test site construction is expected to conclude in July.

As a crucial part of the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Pilot Testing Zone, the ICV test site will play its role in automobile research, testing, and certification. The project has a total investment of 4 billion yuan ($613.6 million) and occupies an area of 87.47 hectares of land. It includes the construction of 10 test zones for different scenarios, four laboratory clusters, and an F2 international race track. Road work will be carried out through the use of big data, AI, 5G, edge computing and other cutting-edge technologies.

The international race track has many curves and some three-dimensional surfaces. "We ensure overall road quality by controlling the transportation and temperature of the asphalt," said Wang Xiaolong, a worker in charge of the construction.
