Dongjing sub-district in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has successfully applied a new "government + villager + enterprise + expert" rural industry development model, which has brought substantial profits to farmers.

At an orchard in Yunyang village, where about 2,000 cherry trees are planted, the cherry harvest before this year's May Day holiday is expected to produce 200,000 yuan ($29,760) in sales revenue for 276 rural households which were relocated from Shiyan city.

Shibajia community near the village is home to many empty nesters, and now has developed rural tourism featuring recreational agriculture and rural homestays in the post-pandemic period.

In the next one or two years, Dongjing sub-district will promote the in-depth integration of culture and technology to accumulate sufficient capital and technology; combine agriculture with tourism to boost the orderly flow of land and talent; and synergize rural and urban development to achieve the coordination of healthcare, TCM deep processing, high-tech biological agriculture, and other sectors.

Cherries, mulberries, and muskmelons have become the sub-district’s most iconic green agricultural products.
