Gao Zongyu, chief engineer of the China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance and Design Institute in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), was awarded for the institute's outstanding scientific achievements for Central China's Hubei province at a provincial sci-tech innovation convention held in Wuhan – capital of the province – on June 25.

At the award ceremony, Gao urged younger generations to seize upon opportunities granted by the new era and integrate individual dreams into the nation's major goals and targets.

When asked about how Hubei is going to build a national sci-tech innovation hub, Gao highlighted the province's solid industrial foundation and abundant educational resources, and suggested that the government advance the optimization and restructuring of key national laboratories, establish innovation platforms that fuse industries, education and research work, and set up a coordination system for cooperation among large, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Gao has presided over the design of more than 50 key bridges and has devoted himself to the cutting-edge research, design and construction of bridges for decades.
