British sports and racing car producer Lotus Cars has finished construction of its new factory in the Chinese city of Wuhan in central Hubei province. Covering an area of around 100 hectares, the factory is located in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, one of China's automotive clusters. It has a total investment of 8 billion yuan ($1.2 billion), according to Chinese automaker Geely, which bought Lotus Cars in 2017. The new factory will produce three models of electric vehicles, with an annual capacity of 150,000 units, according to Geely.

Lotus on March 30 launched its first all-electric Hyper-SUV – Eletre, which is considered a milestone for the company in becoming a high-end electric and intelligent vehicle brand. Lotus Eletre will reportedly be mass-produced in the company's smart workshop in WEDZ, filling a void in super luxury cars in China.
