On the morning of Aug 2, the 16th Games of Hubei Province were being held at the Wuhan Sports Center, which is located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ). Three days ago, the closing ceremony of the 36th Hundred Flowers Awards was held at the same place.
"The Wuhan Sports Center receives about 2 million visits annually since serving as the venue of the Seventh CISM Military World Games," said the manager of the sports center.
The utilization of large sports venues after the event for which they were constructed is over has been a global challenge. The Wuhan Sports Center is the largest sports center in Central China with the most comprehensive facilities. After the Seventh CISM Military World Games, it has been transformed into a comprehensive sports platform for mass fitness, competitive sports, cultural and recreational activities, business services and conferences.
According to the manager, several pavilions of the sports center are open to the public. These pavilions are crowded with sports enthusiasts every night, and are filled with residents playing football and badminton, skiing, and swimming at weekends.
In addition, a series of training camps for climbing, tennis, fencing and other sports are held at the Wuhan Sports Center every summer vacation. The center has also invited 74 sports coaches to make the training more professional.
The sports center is currently applying to become Hubei's first sports-themed 4A-level scenic spot.
