Dongfeng Motor Co, based in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), ranked first in China in terms of invention patent authorization and disclosure, according to the 2022 semi-annual report on China's automobile patent data analysis, which was released by CATARC (Tianjin) AUTOMOTIVE INFORMATION Consulting Co.
The number of patents is one of the most direct ways to evaluate a company's innovation capabilities and technological competence, and most of the patents are invention patents. Statistics show that over the past five years, Dongfeng has issued 19,383 patents, including 10,640 invention patents, accounting for over half of the total.
Over the first half of 2021, Dongfeng registered 2,110 openly disclosed patents, up 19.07 percent and ranking first among all independent domestic car-makers.
The Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs took effect in China on May 5, and Dongfeng then submitted its industrial design application, with its patents for three products authorized.
In July, Dongfeng made its first intellectual property (IP) transaction with Aiptek Technology (Wujiang) Co at the Hubei Technology Exchange, allowing Aiptek Tech to use its independent sci-tech product called Chehuiyan – an intelligent view extension system with a price of 1 million yuan ($148,300).
