A moon cake DIY activity was carried out on Sept 9 at the Wuhan Yangtze International School in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival from Sept 10 to 12 this year.
A total of 30 foreign teachers and their families from the United States, Canada, Singapore and other countries and regions based in the zone were invited to try their hands at making moon cakes.

Xu Chunxi, a Singaporean teacher with a six-year-old son, listened carefully to the Chinese teacher's instructions on how to make moon cakes. "There is also a similar festival like this in Singapore, when families and friends gather together. Although the specific celebrations are different, the festival means the same thing," said Xu.
Anna is an American teacher who has spent the past two years teaching in the zone. Her husband Carson recently flew to WEDZ to reunite with her, and has been impressed by Wuhan. He decided to work long-term with his wife.

This was Carson's first time taking part in such an activity. He was grateful that he was given the opportunity to make Chinese moon cakes and learn what they mean in Chinese culture.
Wuhan Yangtze International School focuses is geared toward the children of foreign families. So far, it has enrolled more than 250 students from 25 countries and regions around the globe.
Doctor Chris Rehm, president of the school, said that the moon cake-making activity enabled foreign teachers to experience Chinese culture. Students were also expected to be more tolerant of cultures and traditions from other countries.
