This year, the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has submitted more than 500 high-tech firm applications. By the end of 2022, the zone is expected to be home to over 900 such firms.

Hubei Ecarx Technology Co, a technological innovation enterprise invested in and independently operated by Geely Holdings Group, is WEDZ's only unicorn company. SiEngine Technology Co, funded by Ecarx and other corporations, is very likely to become the zone's second unicorn firm. Last year, SiEngine launched the "Dragonhawk One" – a seven-nanometer intelligent cockpit chip that is considered to be a technological breakthrough for domestic automobile chip making.

A total of 22 local enterprises have made the fourth list of national specialized and new "little giant" firms released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently.

WEDZ's high-tech firm application passing rate reached 61 percent, ranking first in the city.

In 2023, the zone will cultivate 35 more national specialized and new little giant companies and 100 more provincial specialized and new small and medium-sized enterprises.
