Huazhong University of Science and Technology's Junshan campus in Wuhan Economic & Development Zone's (WEDZ) Junshan New City officially started construction on May 22. The project's first phase has a total investment of 7.8 billion yuan ($1.09 billion), with a total construction area of 600,000 square meters.

It will be completed and put into use in September next year. The cross-disciplinary innovation disciplines, including advanced manufacturing and new materials, information technology and artificial intelligence applications, carbon neutrality and environmental protection, life sciences, and healthcare, as well as international joint colleges, national excellent engineering colleges, and other institutions, and 10,000 students will be the first to settle in the first-phase buildings.

On the other side of Junshan New City, projects such as the Wuhan University of Technology's Artificial Intelligence Integration Demonstration College, New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Industrial Technology Research Institute, and Artificial Intelligence Industrial Technology Research Institute are also being constructed.

They will be completed and inaugurated in September next year. They are set to create seven major innovation platforms in intelligent vehicles, transportation, and manufacturing, including NEVs and critical components, intelligent connected vehicles, and intelligent transportation technology.

Junshan New City is currently bustling with vibrant construction scenes everywhere, with transportation, education, healthcare, commerce, culture, and other supporting facilities being built in sync with the new city, promoting industry-city integrated development.

The construction of Zuo'an Avenue, parallel to the most beautiful subway in Wuhan for lake scenery – Metro Line 16, is being accelerated. After the Changhe section of the avenue opens next year, the travel time from Junshan New City to the urban areas is scheduled to be cut in half.
