Inner Mongolia Shenzhou Silicon Industry Co Ltd, wholly-owned by Shanghai Aviation Industrial (Group) Co Ltd, is a high-tech company focused on the research, production and sales of silicon and polysilicon, important materials in the photovoltaic industry.
Established in 2007, the company covers an area of 1,113 mu (74.2 hectares), with an investment of over 2.2 billion yuan ($317.82 million).
The company’s annual output of polysilicon is 5,000 metric tons every year, making it the leading producer of polysilicon in Inner Mongolia.To facilitate the growth of photovoltaic and aviation industries and build an industrial chain for the photovoltaic industry, China Aerospace Science and Technology and Shanghai Aviation Industrial (Group) Co Ltd established bases in Hohhot. Using the research from Shanghai Aviation Industrial (Group) Co Ltd, the company has improved the silicon production processes. In recent years, it has formed partnerships with 20 companies and research institutions at home and aboard including the Leucrotta Exploration (LXE) and Tianjin University to introduce latest technologies into its production process and has continued to upgrade its manufacturing facilities.
Since 2008, the company has spent nearly 100 million yuan on scientific research and has received dozens of national patents.

According to the company, it plans to ramp up its production capacity up to 30,000 tons during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period.
