Thousands participate in Wusutu apricot blossom festival

The Wusutu apricot blossom festival began on April 19 in Huimin district, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, attracting thousands of visitors from across the country.
The festival will run for five days, and according to the local government, apricots in Wusutu will be in bloom for about 10 days this year.
Seventeen events, including artistic performances, folk costume exhibitions, calligraphy shows, light shows, and sporting events, are scheduled to take place during the festival.
“Wusutu” literally means “places with rivers” in the Mongolian language. Located in Huimin district, it has a century-long history of apricot-planting. The area has more than 20,000 apricot trees that are at least 70 years old and 500 that are at least 100 years old.
Li Weihua, director of the culture, sports, broadcasting and television department of Huimin district, said that the district has made great efforts to develop tourism and establish more culture and tourism brands.
The Wusutu apricot blossom festival is a major tourism attraction established to help promote the development of agriculture and rural tourism.
The area currently has more than 40 orchards, covering an area of over 4,000 mu (266.67 hectares), and the apricot blossom festival attracts nearly 1 million visitors every year, which has greatly increased local incomes.
