Hohhot's biopharmaceutical industries have developed rapidly, making it a pillar industry of the city.

It has biological fermentation companies such as Yuanhe Pharmaceutical Co and Inner Mongolia Datang Pharmaceutical Co, which make the city one of China's biggest bio-fermentation bases.

It has also promoted Mongolian medicines through projects with Qilu Pharmaceutical Co and CSPC Pharmaceutical Group, among others.

In 2019, the first phase of Jinyu Biotechnology International Technology Industrial Park was completed and went into operations.

Hohhot city has made promoting biomedicine clusters one of its targets for 2020.

It plans to develop key projects -- including Jinyu Biotechnology International Industrial Park and a high-level biosecurity laboratory, the Jinhe Uben vaccine, Yiduoli biological solid enzyme preparation and Shiji Fukang oral liquid projects.
