The Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos city cluster in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region will get a further development boost, with plans for new regional high-speed railways released recently, according to local media reports.

Two HSR railways linking Hohhot with other places in the autonomous region will be added, officials said.

The Hohhot-Baotou Intercity Railway will be located in the central part of Inner Mongolia, starting at the capital Hohhot and ending at Baotou, with a total length of 183.7 kilometers.

Officials said the Hohhot-Baotou Intercity Railway will be a dedicated passenger line with a top design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

The line will be part of the Beijing-Lanzhou High-speed Railway, which starts from Beijing in the east and when complete will run to Hohhot, Baotou and Yinchuan, to end in Lanzhou city in Gansu province.

The Beijing-Zhangjiakou Intercity Railway and Zhangjiakou-Hohhot Railway were opened on Dec 30, 2019 and operated in accordance with the unified arrangements of China Railway.

The other railway on the drawing boards is the Hohhot-Ordos Intercity Railway which will link Hohhot and Ordos, passing Hohhot’s new planned international airport that will be constructed in Horinger new area, with a total length of about 208 kilometers.

Officials said that with the development of the Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos city cluster, the intercity passenger flow between cities within the city cluster will be greatly increased.

They said the plan to implement the Hohhot-Ordos Intercity Railway is expected to help enhance passenger transportation, which will be conducive to the high-quality development of the city cluster.
