Jia Hongwei, an inheritor of Inner Mongolian leather painting, as well as chief of Monishan town, gets busy with his current work in Monishan town in Hohhot city, in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on July 19. More than 80 handicraft and other intangible cultural heritage projects in Inner Mongolia and surrounding areas are currently being displayed in the town -- including naoge performances, Inner Mongolian leather carvings and shaomai making. Naoge is a type of folk performance usually staged one day before the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar. Each man in the parade carries an iron frame fastened to his waist with a child wearing colorful costumes standing on the top. The men parade to the beat of drums and gongs.
