A prefabricated modular CAT scan room started operating on Aug 3 at Inner Mongolia People's Hospital in Hohhot, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- the first facility of its kind in the autonomous region, according to local media reports.

The CAT scan chamber was lifted into place by crane on the east side of Block A in hospital's Inpatient Building, officials said.

According to experts, the speedy addition of the new CAT scan chamber will greatly alleviate the backlog in screenings of fever patients and better serve patients in the hospital, avoiding the risk of cross-infection.

The new chamber, shaped like a shipping container, has separate sections for patients and doctors.

The outer layer has lead shielding and the interior contains a series of necessary facilities such as independent scanning room, operations room and an ultraviolet disinfection device.
