Hohhot, capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is set to develop a batch of key hydrogen energy projects by 2023 and further develop its hydrogen industry by 2025, according to the Implementation Opinions of the People's Government of Hohhot on Promoting the High-quality Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (Draft for Solicitation of Social Opinions), which was released on Nov 5.

Hohhot's industrial hydrogen production resources are relatively rich and have a good foundation for the development of the hydrogen energy industry.

The installed capacity of Hohhot's wind and solar hydropower generation has reached 3 million kilowatts. The implementation of hydrogen production from renewable energy has obvious advantages and broad prospects.

Hohhot will take advantage of its wind and solar energy resources to build a demonstration project for hydrogen production from renewable energy. The city is to implement a number of key hydrogen production projects from wind, photovoltaic panels, and solar storage to form a clean, low-cost hydrogen energy production industry.

According to the document, the hydrogen's production, storage and transportation and the hydrogenation industrial chain will form a scale, with a liquid hydrogen production capacity of 30 metric tons per day by 2023.

More than five hydrogen refueling stations will be built in the city, with a hydrogenation capacity of more than 3,000 kilograms daily.

By then, the output value of the hydrogen energy industry chain is expected to reach 5 billion yuan ($755 million).

By 2025, the liquid hydrogen production capacity will reach 60 tons per day, more than 10 hydrogen refueling stations will be built, and the hydrogen refueling capacity will exceed 6,000kg per day, forming a wide coverage of hydrogen energy equipment, fuel cell stacks and core components, vehicle manufacturing and application.

The annual output value of the hydrogen energy industry chain will hit 15 billion yuan by 2025.
